Bachelor i straffegjennomføringen_US
Preventive Detention is a (potential) indefinite sentence, which aim is to protect the community against new serious criminality, and rehabilitation is an essential content for the convicted while in prison and are a central element as to the protection of the community. With constantly less resources and gradually increasing numbers of offenders sentenced to Preventive Detention, a change in the content of rehabilitation has forced its way to the surface. The interdisciplinary within the units, that originally was a significant part of the professional work, is now limited. The structured work to create a good social climate within the units have become less visible. With such a backdrop, “The complexity of rehabilitation” aims to investigate the importance of impact the correctional officer may have regarding the rehabilitation process. Throughout a qualitative approach, this literary study will focus on the tension between structural borders within preventive detention, the demand of rehabilitation and the correctional officer’s contribution to that rehabilitation. With contributions from different fields like criminology, sociology and psychology, this study will try to enlighten the importance of interpersonal relations, interaction and self-perception in the process of rehabilitation. The purpose of this study is to clarify the correctional officer’s ability to act as a contributor in the process of rehabilitation of those sentenced to Preventive detention. Further, the study will seek to investigate what may prevent the correctional officer to be of help concerning the rehabilitation process.en
