Sammendrag
Working with this annual Report is part of a larger statistical analysis conducted over a five year
period; this year’s report being the fourth. The Report only conveys self-reported experiences of
violence, which the person exposed to violence herself/himself reports by filling in a standard
questionnaire developed by the researchers at KRUS (The Correctional Staff Academy of
Norway). All filled-in questionnaires are periodically sent to KRUS, which received 207 such
questionnaires on violence in 2007. It is thus the exposed person herself/himself who conveys
her/his own experience of the incident based on the questions asked. Registration of questions on
more general and matter-of-fact information however, is the responsibility of the person
responsible for the unit and the region, who is to ensure that the information is filled in. The
questionnaires are anonymous.
The number of incoming questionnaires in 2007 is smaller than in 2006. Over time, there are also
differences between the regions. Of the 207 reports, five are from the Probation Service.
The Report of 2007 also compares large, medium-sized and small prisons with a so-called high
security level. There are differences between the units with regards to the number of incidents
reported. There are also variations in the number of reported incidents in small prisons. 19 reports
are from prisons with a so-called lower security level.
A few more prison officers report that they have been exposed to violence in 2007 compared to
2006.
